The apple tree (Malus DDomestica) is a deciduous tree in the rose family, best known for its sweet pomaceous fruit, the apple. It is cultivated worldwide as a fruit tree and is the most widely grown species in the genus Malus. The tree originated in Central Asia, where its wild ancestor, Malus Sieversii is still found today. Apples have been grown for thousand of years in Asia and Europe and were brought to North America by European colonists.

Apple has got the Poluphenols, OPC, Phlretin etc. and Phloretin is a dihydrochalcone, a type of natural phenols that can be found in apple tree leaves. Phloretin inhibits the active transport of glucose into cells SGLT1 and SGLT2, though the inhibition is weaker that by its glycoside phlorizin. Orally consumed phlorizin is nearly entirely converted into phloretin by hydrolytic enzymes in the small intestine. An important effect of this is the inhibition of glucose absorption by the small intestine and the inhibition of renal glucose reabsorption.
